Marty Tabb named as new Donegal Celtic manager

Donegal Celtic have appointed former Cliftonville manager Marty Tabb as the successor to Pat McAllister.

The 50-year-old former Reds defender led Cliftonville to a CIS Cup win in 2003 but resigned a year later after a poor league campaign.

"I wanted to get back in at managing at the top level - I lived in west Belfast for the first 21 years of my life so my heart is here," said Tabb.

McAllister quit Donegal Celtic last week for personal reasons.

It was a shock departure after McAllister took the club into the Carling Premiership following a play-off victory over Institute.

Tabb, who started his Irish League career with Coleraine, also had a short spell as caretaker manager of Larne.

He added: "I know how much the club means to the people of west Belfast. I want to be part of that and bring it forward.

"In the last 10-15 years there has only been a few managers to have won trophies, and I am one of them.

"The players have proven themselves at a lower level but I have no doubt they can do well at the higher level."

Tabb brings in Frankie Wilson and Gerard Crossley as part of his backroom team at Suffolk Road.
